This summer, Fiver is working with a fellow from Colgate University through the school’s Upstate Institute Summer Field School program. Alex Maulden, the fellow assigned to Camp Fiver, is working on a sustainability and energy audit. Alex is assessing camp's energy and water usage and, with guidance from Colgate University’s Director of Sustainability, will make recommendations on feasible alternatives to improve sustainability practices and reduce energy costs. Already this summer, we have installed motion sensor lights in the bathrooms throughout Camp Fiver and have met with an expert on solar energy to explore that renewable energy source. As the "E" in Fiver indicates, we all need to do our part as ENVIRONMENTALISTS!
Check out Colgate University's Upstate Institute's blog on this project. Thanks, Alex!
